Licensed Massage Therapist

Service Name:   Licensed Massage Therapist
Service Description:   Services Swedish massage is the most predominant example of traditional European massage and it is the most commonly used method in the United States. It was developed by Per Henrik Ling in Sweden in the 1830s and uses a system of long gliding strokes, kneading, and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles. It usually goes in the direction of blood flow toward the heart because there is an emphasis on stimulating the circulation of the blood through the soft tissues of the body. Swedish can be a relatively vigorous form of massage, sometimes with a great deal of joint movement included. Swedish massage can : - relax muscles, - improve circulation without increasing heart load, - increase range of motion, - relieve pain and discomfort associated with muscle tension, fractures, sprains, sciatica, and stiff joints, - shorten recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissue of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes, - stretch the ligaments and tendons, keeping them supple, - stimulates the skin and nervous system while at the same time relaxing the nerves themselves, - help reduce emotional and physical stress. It is often recommended as part of a regular program for stress management, and - be used in clinical settings as medical or remedial therapy. Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as "adhesions."). Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. Unlike classic massage therapy, which is used for relaxation, deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as: Chronic pain Limited mobility Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury) Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome Postural problems Ostearthritis pain Fibromyalgia Muscle tension or spasm Tui na is a hands-on-body treatment using acupressure that is a modality of Chinese medicine whose purpose is to bring the body into balance. The principles being balanced are the eight principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The practitioner may brush, knead, roll/press and rub the areas between each of the joints (known as the eight gates) to open the body's defensive (wei) chi and get the energy moving in both the meridians and the muscles. The practitioner can then use range of motion, traction, massage and cupping with the stimulation of acupressure points and to treat both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many non-musculoskeletal conditions. Trigger Point Therapy - a trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may trigger pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache. Trigger points are caused by muscle overuse or injury, and because the aches are associated with moving parts, the pain is commonly mistaken for arthritis.Trigger point massage (also known as myotherapy) is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort. The result of trigger point massage is the elimination of toxins in the muscles and the release of energizing endorphins. A significant decrease in pain is often found after just one treatment. Customized Therapeutic Massage - the massage is tailored to the client?s individual needs and includes elements of Swedish, relaxation, sports, deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy. You no longer have to worry about which massage to pick and you save money by paying one low price for a high end treatment. Massage techniques used incorporate long-flowing strokes to ensure complete relaxation and improve circulation. If you are experiencing chronic pain areas, techniques are used to access the deeper layers of muscle and fascia. If you are athletic, techniques can be used to cater to your specific needs to increase flexibility and correct muscle imbalances. Stretching and range of motion can be used to reduce injuries and increase joint mobility. Whether you wish to unwind, relieve stress or address health concerns, you can do it all with a customized 30, 60 or 90 minute massage Sports Massage - is specifically designed for people who are involved in physical activity. But you don't have to be a professional athlete to have one-it's also used by people who are active and work out often. The focus isn't on relaxation but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance. A combination of techniques are used. The strokes are generally faster than Swedish massage. Facilitated stretching is a common technique. It helps to loosen muscles and increase flexibility. Reflexology - although reflexology is sometimes called foot massage, it is more than simple foot massage. Reflexology involves applying pressure to certain points on the foot that correspond to organs and systems in the body. Reflexology is very relaxing, especially for people who stand on their feet all day or just have tired, achy feet.
