AQUARIUS DIVE SHOPS, Monterey, CA
1999 – 2007 Owned and operated two highly successful dive shops which were among the most reputable on the West Coast. Grossing over $700,000 in annual sales these shops, located on the Monterey Bay, were well known both nationally and internationally. As a full service shop I offered equipment sales, rentals, a repair department, instruction, tours, and both local and overseas dive travel. A friendly atmosphere was fostered along with knowledgeable staff to provide exceptional service and care to the customers who walked through our doors. This was just one of the reasons the business was voted “Best Dive Shop” every year in the county’s annual reader’s poll, and we continued to build our customer base and profit margins despite a weak economy and saturated market. I hired and trained all employees and sought to instill a professional and team atmosphere.
I maintained exclusive dealerships with the leading vendors in the industry and was able to secure the best pricing levels from them. All merchandise was tested and tried and I sold only high quality product.
Many government agencies had long term and lucrative accounts with the shops including the California Fish and Game, State Parks, and County Sheriff Departments, and the City Ocean Rescue Teams. We also maintained many accounts with educational institutions such as, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Research Institute, Hopkin’s Marine Station of Stanford and CSUMB to name a few.
In addition I planned and lead overseas SCUBA trips to such exotic locations as Thailand, Bali, Indonesia and Honduras.
I performed all bookkeeping practices including payroll, A/P, A/R, reconciliations and quarterly taxes, as well as maintained inventory control and purchasing.
Every day customers would compliment us on our level of service and many had heard of our shop through word of mouth. We had an excellent reputation, and the secret of our success was our ability to make people feel welcome, comfortable and well informed. The business sold within two months when I decided to pursue other dreams!

1998-1999 Sailed from Seattle, WA down the coast of North and Central America through the Panama Canal and up into the Caribbean. Saw many countries, battled many storms, worked along the way in Mexico and Honduras in the dive industry.
1994-1995 Koh Phi Phi, THAILAND: Worked as a Divemaster leading a host of foreign tourists on guided SCUBA diving tours. Very international crowd!
