Professional Resume:
One-On-One with Personal Trainer Adriel Yapana isn't your average run-of-the-mill trainer.
This rising fitness expert, who has been involved in resistance training and exercise for most of his life, knows the focused dedication and sacrifice it takes to build a great, strong, healthy body.
Born in Quezon City, Philippines and growing up in Los Angeles, California, Adriel was always a dedicated athlete and student. The fact that fitness was always an integral part of his life, he never imagined it would later become a successful career for him.
Before finishing his course in EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) with aspirations of being a firefighter, Adriel's initial plans centered on attending courses the mind and body's potential had led him to fitness and health. He had worked as a part-time fitness trainer for friends while in college, but never thought this hobby would shape his future. Now, 12 years later, he's never looked back.
During my sophomore year, my primary focus was on being a firefighter and taking the required fire science courses, the 34-year-old recalls. I was always studying, but knew deep down inside that this was not necessarily my life's calling. I've had this innate passion for transforming the human body through exercise and positive lifestyle choices. And more importantly for me, it was all about helping people.
Training at a local body building gym near the Pasadena College was actually a blessing in disguise Adriel recalls. It allowed me to try other things, Adriel says. After seeing that I could actually build a successful and satisfying career as a trainer, I knew that this was a passion that I wanted to pursue. I figured that if I can attain 4-5 clients, why not 20-30? That's exactly what I did.
Adriel's popularity as a Los Angeles-based trainer grew quickly. I have often referred my hometown as the Land of the Looks because Hollywood was only a few short miles away. Appropriately, he named his training company Achieve With Adriel Mobile Fitness as a way to convey and to encourage people who were ready to make some life changing decisions.
Adriel believes that first, you must transform your thinking before you can change your body. Thereafter, he works his magic on keeping the body's energy high as one of his main component in his fitness regimen; intensity in his workout is the key.
Adriel always tries to distinguish himself as fitness professional. I see too many incompetent and unprofessional trainers these days, he says. It tarnishes the dedication and commitment of the true fitness professionals. Sometimes I walk into these fitness clubs and can't figure out who's the trainer and who's the client!
Among Adriel's credentials, he is a Certified Fitness Professional Trainer through International Sports Science Association (ISSA), Ceritified Massage Therapist, graduated from California Healing Arts College in Santa Monica, award-winning weight-loss consultant formerly with Jenny Craig, Bally Total Fitness, memberships with National Academy of Sports Medicine, Future Fit, IDEA Fitness, Professional Fitness Trainer, Expert Rating and the CHEK Institute the very popular and quite often predominately focused nichewomen's fitness, completed and passed Equal, but not the Same considerations for training females course.
The Los Angeles native says that being of serious student of health and fitness has helped him tremendously in understanding training and nutrition. He believes that he is part scientist, part artist, part marketer and part trainer. The gym is one of his playgrounds, his laboratory, and this is one place where he sculpts the body of each client.
Adriel believes that the keys to success for total transformation lie in the variation in the training progressive overload and intensity, frequently changing your routine and sequence. Another powerful key is that the other 22.5 hours you spend your time outside the gym the habits formed and lived in those critical hours lead you or break you towards your personal fitness progress and results.
His fitness philosophy always incorporates posture and stability first, then intensity, strength and power follows. Strict techniques and proper biomechanics are some major keys in staying in the game, consistent, and injury-free. I find it imperative to first teach a client the proper way to stabilize and properly execute an activity motion before intensity is raised or weights increased, he explains.
Correct posture and stabilization is vital. Once the person has learned how to properly control and contract his or her muscles, aesthetic of the body will follow and changes will happen much quicker and with lasting and injury-free results. Now isn't that what we all want?
