D.M. Orange Emotional Understanding My special interest is in ?Self Psychology.? I do not subscribe to any ideology, nor am I partisan, or dogmatic about anything. I remain open in search of new ideas, meeting persons where they are, within the context of their being (self). Self Psychology makes a great effort to understand persons within their subjective experience and to regard the self as the central agency of the human psyche. Self-psychology builds on Freud?s clinical model, though adds a strong emphasis on the importance of empathy, the capacity to think and feel oneself into the inner life of another person. Self Psychology emphasizes the central importance of human relationships in what are called ?self-object? experiences. The goal of therapy is to build a strong, cohesive self, the core of one?s personality and character.
